Personal Medical History

Your personal medical history can be very important in determining your risk for heart attack and stroke. Quite often these conditions can be treated to reduce your risk. Discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider to determine your risk of heart disease or stroke. Some conditions to be on the alert for are:

  • certain blood disorders that cause your red blood cell count to rise
  • certain genetic disorders, such as sickle cell anemia
  • previous heart attack or stroke
  • family history of heart attack or stroke
